Isaac Gathu, a Kenyan IT technician and businessman, has always been fascinated by the idea of space travel and dreams of one day stepping foot on Mars. As the founding president of the Mars Society of Kenya, he dedicates himself to promoting awareness of space exploration and participates in analogue space missions to simulate the experience of being in space.
Gathu’s passion for space travel is not only serious but also lighthearted, as he often dons his homemade space suit in public to garner attention for his cause. His ultimate goal is to one day represent Kenya as an astronaut on Mars, and he diligently prepares himself physically and mentally for this distant dream.
In a similar vein, Lydia Matata, a screenwriter and filmmaker from Kenya, has been making waves in the industry. She has written for popular drama series on Netflix and Showmax, and her latest documentary film, Utapata Mwingine, was recognized with the Best Emerging Filmmaker award at the UN Women’s Global Voices Film Festival.
Both Gathu and Matata are shining examples of Kenyan talent and ambition, with Gathu reaching for the stars, quite literally, and Matata making her mark in the film industry. Their stories serve as inspiration for young Africans aspiring to break boundaries and achieve their dreams, no matter how far-fetched they may seem.
