Man arrested in connection with attempted shipment of meth to Australia

A man in California, Jing Tang Li, was arrested and charged with distribution and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, connected to an attempted shipment of over a ton of the drug to Australia. The United States Attorney’s Office stated that dangerous drugs like methamphetamine have a devastating impact on communities, and it is important to hold drug traffickers accountable. The drugs were hidden in packages labeled as furniture, wheel hub testing equipment, and other items. While the arrest was announced in 2023, the attempted exportation of the drugs took place earlier. If convicted, Li could face a 10-year prison sentence. The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, United States Customs and Border Protection, and the Australian Federal Police.
