Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” Unauthorized at Trump Rally, Reps Confirm

Representatives for Canadian singer Celine Dion have stated that the use of her hit song “My Heart Will Go On” at a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump was unauthorized, with no permission given. The video clip of Dion performing the song was shown at a rally in Bozeman, Montana, and has been played at previous Trump rallies as well. This is not the first time artists have asked Trump to stop using their music at his rallies, with artists like the Rolling Stones, Adele, and Neil Young making similar requests in the past. In order to play music at campaign events, political campaigns must have public performance licenses, which some artists have not granted to Trump.

Celine Dion, who recently performed at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022. Her management team and record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada, are taking action against the unauthorized use of her music. Artists have the right to control how their music is used, and many have spoken out against the use of their music in political contexts. Dion’s representatives emphasized that the use of her music at Trump rallies is not endorsed by her. This issue highlights the importance of respecting artists’ rights and permissions when using their music in public arenas.
