The Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment is hosting a free tire disposal event for residents of Weld County this weekend. The event is in response to a previous tire fire at Tire Mountain and aims to reduce hazards to public safety and the environment. Residents can dispose of up to four off-rim passenger car or light truck tires for free at the Household Hazardous Waste Center in Greeley. The tires will be collected by a third-party contractor and recycled for various uses. The event was initially limited to residents of unincorporated Weld County but is now open to all county residents. This disposal event provides an opportunity to clean up rural areas, reduce illegal tire dumping on county roads, and make tire disposal more accessible. The county hopes to collect up to 2,000 tires during the event. For more information and to sign up for a drop-off time, residents can visit weld.gov/go/hhw or call (970) 400-2217. This event is an important step towards responsible tire disposal and environmental protection in Weld County.
