Organizers of the group White Dudes for Harris held a virtual event that raised over $4 million for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. The event had over 190,000 attendees including celebrities and prominent Democrats. The call was organized in under a week with a goal of 10,000 RSVPs and $500,000 raised. Organizers faced questions about why they were organizing white men, with the goal being to stop ceding this demographic to the right. Inspired by the success of Win with Black Women, which raised over $1.5 million for Harris’ campaign, the White Dudes for Harris call aimed to mobilize support.
The call featured Democratic surrogates including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who urged attendees to get involved and highlighted the impact of supporting Harris’ campaign. The Harris campaign itself raised over $200 million, with 66% coming from first-time donors. Another identity-based organizing call, “White Women: Answer the Call,” saw over 164,000 attendees and raised over $8 million within 24 hours. The success of these events demonstrates the strong support for Harris’ campaign and the willingness of different demographics to come together in support of her candidacy.
